Don L. Heaney

MADISON
Donald Lee Heaney, age 81 passed away Thursday, September 06, 2012 at St. Mary's Care Center. He was born in West Allis on May 15, 1931 the son of the late Edward W. and Catherine (Strizel) Heaney. He graduated from UW Madison as an undergraduate and received advanced degrees from the college of law. Don was united in marriage to Attorney Barbara Page in June 1951.

Don served the catholic diocese as an attorney since 1953 and served all four Bishops of Madison. He joined the firm of Thomas, Orr, Isaksen, Werner & Lathrop in 1959 as an associate and remained a member and partner of that firm and its successors throughout his career of 45 yrs. practicing law. His clients included manufacturers, utilities, the petroleum industry, professional individuals, and a wide spectrum of business entities. The firm evolved through several name changes over the years and eventually adopted the institutional name of Lathrop & Clark, LLP. That firm merged into the present firm of Boardman & Clark, LLP as of January 1, 2012. Don was highly respected and regarded by his partners, associates and staff for his intellect, sage advice, good humor, wit and commitment to his firm and the ethical practice of law.

He served as president of the State Bar from 1985-86. He continued to be active as president of the State Bar Senior Lawyers Division, the Wisconsin Law Foundation, and the Fellows of the Wisconsin Law Foundation as well as a member of the Board of Directors of WILMIC since its founding.

Don was twice knighted by Pope John Paul II Equestrian Knights of the Holy Sepulchre and the Order of St. Gregory the Great; past president and continuing member of the Sierra Club of Madison, and was a member of the Finance Council of St. Maria Goretti Parish, Madison.

Don will be deeply missed by his wife Barbara; children: Mike, Tom (Gail Banovez), Ann, and Robert (Kelli) Heaney; and other extended relatives and friends.

The family extends a special thank you to the staff of St. Mary's Care Center and Agrace HospiceCare, Inc. for their wonderful care and support.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at ST. MARIA GORETTI CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5313 Flad Ave., Madison. A visitation will precede the Mass from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. at church. Burial will be in Resurrection Catholic Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at church.
