SUN PRAIRIE--Elsie Marie Czehno, age 89 passed away Monday, November 5, 2012 at Sun Prairie Care Center. Elsie was born in Delavan, Wisconsin on October 11, 1923, the daughter of the late George and Helen (Maier) Nichols. She was united in marriage to Richard Czehno on September 6, 1946 in Wauwatosa. Dick preceded her in death in 1991; they have now been reunited. Elsie was an educator for over 20 years. She taught 6th grade at the Northside Elementary School in Sun Prairie until her retirement in 1981. Elsie enjoyed traveling, reading, bridge and antique clubs, spending time with family and friends and giving good advice.
She will be dearly missed by her daughters, Kathy (Tom) Payne of Murphy, NC, Jackie (John Singer) Czehno of Lodi, WI, Joann (the late Eric) Trodahl of Acworth, GA, Nancy Czehno of Madison, and Carol (Tom) Pfeffer of Madison; 6 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; sister, Alice Olson of Chico, CA; and sister-in-law, Dolores Nichols of Ripon.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at Cress Funeral Home, 1310 Emerald Terrace, Sun Prairie. Elsie's family will greet friends one hour prior to service. Refreshments will follow in the Cress community room.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Sun Prairie Public Library or a charity of your choice.

I was also one of Elsie's students at Northside school in the the year my family moved to Sun Prairie. It's been many years, but her encouragement and enthusiasm helped me adjust to a new community and new friends, and helped direct me toward the sciences. I'm sure we will all miss her."
"Dear Elsie's "girls" and family, I taught with your Mom for years at Northside back in the 70's. We were on the same 6th grade team, and I have great memories of your mom, her giving spirit, her enthusiasm for learning, her sense of humor (I still remember her distinct laugh) and most of all, I remember how proud she was of you girls when she told us fond stories about you. I remember how quickly we became friends not just teaching partners, even though she was approaching retirement when I had just entered the teaching profession. I was always so impressed with her attitude and fortitude when we took classes of 6th graders camping overnight for 3 days! I do remember her saying at the end of each trip, "I think I am getting too old for this." Now that I have recently retired from the classroom after 32 years, I completely get it, and that makes me even more impressed with your mom! There is a special place in heaven with her name on it.....for having inspired so many young people to be their best and give their best. "I have known Elsie for most of my life. She was my teacher at Northside. Elsie was a most cherished friend to my mother Janet Danielson as well. She did so much with and for my mother when she fell ill. Lost of visits and outings when my mom was up to it. She was also at the Sun Prairie Health Care Center. I will always have a special place in my heart for her. I hope Elsie and my mom can reunite for another game of Bridge, laughs and love. What a lady! My sympathies to you all."
