Carol E. Helfrecht
November 3, 1926 - November 22, 2012

Carol E. Helfrecht, age 86, passed away on Thursday, November 22, 2012 at Meriter Hospital surrounded by family. She was born on November 3, 1926 to Emil and Caroline (Weishaar) Hoveland in Madison. Carol was raised on Madison's near east side. She attended elementary school at old Marquette, old Lapham and old Lincoln schools. Carol graduated from Madison East High School in 1944. She was employed from 1944 - 1964 initially as a clerk and later as secretary to the president of National Mutual Benefit Life Insurance Company in Madison. After retirement, she served as program chairman and president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the southwest chapter of the Wisconsin Society of Professional Engineers. She was a math volunteer at Thoreau Elementary school. Carol was a member of Madison Metropolitan Women's Club, The Madison Club, and Maple Bluff Country Club. Carol is survived by her husband, Donald Helfrecht; their only child, Karen; brother-in-law, Kenneth Helfrecht; sister-in-law, Jaclyn Hoveland; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Howard Hoveland. A visitation will be held from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at ST. JOHN'S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 322 E. Washington Avenue, Madison. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at church. Burial will be held at Forest Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church or a charity of one's choice.
