Michael Peter Dorn
May 20, 1942 - December 9, 2012

Michael Peter Dorn, age 70, of Waunakee died at home surrounded by his family on Sunday, December 9, 2012 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Wauankee on May 20, 1942 to Christian and Marie (Miller) Dorn, the sixth of eight siblings (four girls and four boys). Mike married Judith Hill, his high school girlfriend, on May 28, 1963 and they had two sons. Mike was raised and lived in the Waunakee area all of his life. He worked for the Waunakee Canning Company before being hired as a boilermaker for Becker Boiler of Sun Prairie, where he worked for 43 years and retired in 2007 as an ASME certified welder. Mike was a member and former usher for St. John's Catholic Church. He enjoyed turkey hunting, Wisconsin Badgers women's sports both basketball and hockey where he was a season ticket holder and was a lifelong Wisconsin sports fan supporting the Brewers, Packers, and Badgers. He loved his dog Shiloe and enjoyed working with his hands in the yard and on woodworking projects. Mike would do anything for family.

Survivors include his wife Judith to whom he was married for 49½ years; sons, Ronald (Kathy) Dorn of Sun Prairie and Donald (significant other, Tenielle) of McFarland; grandchildren, Douglas, Gregory, Brandon and Rachel; siblings, Virginia Conway of Concord, CA, Joseph (Charlotte) Dorn of Waunakee, Bernadette (Robert) Frank of Fox Lake, Frederick (Maggie) Dorn of Waunakee, George (Barbara) Dorn of Lodi and Margaret (Bruce) Tessner of DeForest; and many nieces and nephews. Mike was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Joanne Peterson; and nephew Paul Peterson.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 13, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John's
Catholic Church, 209 South St., Waunakee. Friends may call on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Winn-Cress Funeral Home, 5785 HWY Q,
Waunakee. Friends may also call from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Thursday.

The family would like to thank the wonderful and compassionate caregivers of Agrace HospiceCare and Dr. Hoang and nurse Jennifer Verhoeven of UW Hospital. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Agrace HospiceCare.
