Matthew F. Winn (1923-2012)

Whitewater-Matthew F. Winn, age 89, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 24, 2012, at Fort Atkinson Memorial Hospital. Matt was born in Whitewater, WI on January 18, 1923, the son Howard and Mary (Roherty) Winn. Matt graduated from Wisconsin State Teachers College. He was active in the Phi Chi Fraternity and remained in contact with its members throughout the years. While attending college he met and later married Marilynn C. Antilla on May 27, 1944. Matt was employed at the Railway Express Co. in Whitewater and the Chevy plant in Janesville. The majority of his working career was spent at Hawthorn Mellody Dairy in Whitewater. He retired in July, l981.

Matt was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was an active volunteer with the Boy Scouts and spent countless hours helping at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Whitewater. His
passions included watching Notre Dame football and the History Channel on television, as well as playing cards and Bingo. His handyman skills were endless and often sought after by family, friends and neighbors. He loved reading, going to Culver's, and visits from family and friends while residing at Fairhaven in Whitewater.

Matt was extremely proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his five children: Susan Winn of Milwaukee, Dr. Jeff (Susie) Winn of Fort Atkinson, John (Margaret) Winn of Oshkosh, Harvey (Ginger) Winn of Waunakee, and Debbie (Mike) McCluskey of Mazomanie; eight grandchildren: Matt (Kristen) Winn, Katie (David) Knabel, Clarissa (Mike) Gaulke, Megan (Joel) Mulder, Sari Winn, Patrick Winn, Jay Winn, and Molly (Bob) Schaar; six great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 65 years in September of 2009.

Visitation will take place on Saturday, December 29, at ST. PATRICK'S CATHOLIC
CHURCH, 1225 W. Main St. Whitewater, at 9:30 a.m., followed by Mass at 11:00. a.m. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery immediately following the Mass.
