George Franklin Fritz, Sr, son of Martha E. (Carter) and John Wesley Fritz, was born on April 29, 1933 in Bluff City, Tennessee. He grew up in Bluff City and attended school through the 7th grade. In 1951, he worked briefly as a tree surgeon for the Union Line Clearance Company in Lorain, Ohio. George enlisted in the United States Navy in 1952 and served during the Korean and Vietnam Wars, receiving the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Presidential Unit Citation, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. George was honorably discharged on July 27, 1973, after 21 years of service as a signalman 2nd class.
George married four times and through the years was blessed with eleven children, Robin, George Jr, Betty, Laurie, Robin, George III, Michaelle, Einar, Tonya, Stephanie, and Charlie.
George enjoyed fishing, reading western books, and watching western movies. He also enjoyed watching pro-wrestling matches. George loved spending time with his kids and enjoyed being a grandpa.
George had been living in Peterstown, West Virginia until January 2006, when he made his home in Randolph, Iowa to live near family. He passed away at the home of his son, Frank Fritz, in Randolph, on January 29, 2013 at the age of 79 years and 9 months. George was preceded in death by his parents; and daughter Michaelle, at age 5.
George is survived by his children, Robin Mullins and husband Mark of Malvern, IA, George Jr "Frank" Fritz and wife Cindy of Randolph, Betty Odom of Malvern, Laurie Prather and husband Bobby of Pelham, NC, Robin Simpson and husband Mark of Huntingdon, TN, George Fritz III and wife Sheri of Billings, MT, Einar Fritz, and Tonya Fritz and Bob Hammers, all of Malvern, and Stephanie Fritz and Charlie Fritz, both of Peterstown, WV; 24 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; a close cousin he grew up with, Mirelda "Ma" Trivett of Bluff City, TN; and other relatives and friends.
Memorials are directed to the familly.
Interment with military honors will be at the Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia.
