JOSEPH GEERTZ
PORT SAINT LUCIE, Florida - Joseph Robert Geertz, 58, a former resident of Muscatine, died on February 1, 2013, in Gainesville, Florida.

Celebration of Life Gathering will be held from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 9, 2013, at the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, in Muscatine.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family in care of Rose Geertz.

Joseph was born on August 10, 1954, in Iowa City, the son of Robert and Myrtle Lendt Geertz. He grew up in Nichols and spent many years living in Muscatine. He relocated to Florida in 2007.

Joseph graduated from West Liberty High School in 1972. During his years in Iowa, he worked for HWH, HON, and several Muscatine area restaurants. He attended First Assembly of God and the Jesus Mission Church while living in Iowa. He became an ordained minister and was active in various ministries while residing in Florida.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Donna Trexler-Geertz of Port Saint Lucie, Florida; three children, one son, Benjamin Geertz of Muscatine; two daughters, Jessica Bunn and husband, Scott, of Elgin, Illinois, and Rose Geertz of Muscatine; two sisters, Carolyn Yeater and husband, John, of Muscatine, and Viola Kemmerer and husband, Chuck, of Thousand Oaks, California; one brother, Charles Geertz and wife, Carolyn, of Nichols; one sister-in-law, Marge Classen of Burlington; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Alvin; and two siblings in infancy, a brother, Teddy, and a sister, Mary.
