James Kaye Wright was born August 22, 1932 near Milo, Iowa to Paul and Carolyn (Milleson) Wright. He graduated from Milo High School in 1950. Jim served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict serving in Korea and Japan from 1952 until 1954. He married JoAnn Spalti on February 17, 1955. They were blessed with two daughters: Kim and LuAnn. Jim was blessed with a third daughter, Dana, from a second marriage.

Jim could do anything, he was a farmer, but also worked as a commodities broker for FGL in West Des Moines. He also worked for Big Bear and was a rural mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. Jim was an interesting man. He loved big band music and had a beautiful singing voice. He was kind of a "crusty old farmer" with a "soft heart". He was a bit ornery, strong willed, and loved to give someone a hard time. There were no gray areas with Jim; it was either right or wrong. He was also very caring and was very proud of his girls and his grandchildren.

He was a member of the American Legion and belonged to the Draft Horse Association. He loved going to auctions and was a collector of antiques, Hesston belt buckles, and vintage farm machinery. He enjoyed working with mules and horse drawn buggies. In short he was a Classic. He was a self-described "Friend of man, friend of nature, and friend of God".

Jim passed away Sunday, February 10, 2013 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines at the age of 80 years. He was preceded in death by his siblings: Junior Wright, Richard Wright, Marjorie Barnes, and Fern Bales. Surviving are his daughters: Kim (Dennis) McNerny of Pleasantville, LuAnn (Lyle) Ohnemus of Milo, and Dana Wright-Peralta of Denver, Iowa; grandchildren: Erin (Shaun), Jessie, Lee, Garrett, and Gianni; and great grandchildren: Alayna and Dani. Also surviving is a sister, Mildred Risinger of Indianola; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
