Ardis Ivonne Bornholdt
June 3, 1925 - December 21, 2008


Ardis Ivonne VerHoef was born June 3, 1925 on a farm near Sanborn, Iowa the daughter of William and Barbara (Kaiser) VerHoef. She graduated from Archer Consolidated School, Morningside College in Sioux City and Northwestern College in Orange City. On January 19, 1949, Ardis was united in marriage to Robert Bornholdt in Archer, Iowa. To this union, two children were born. Ardis taught school in Arnolds Park, Sutherland, Archer, Sheldon and Primghar. Ardis was a member of the United Methodist Churches in Emmetsburg and Primghar, the Iowa Retired Teachers Association, and the Order of the Eastern Star.
Ardis enjoyed volunteering her time and talents. She taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and was circle chair. She was past-President of the United Methodist Women and Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star. Ardis spent time reading, sewing, working crossword puzzles and watching sports. Above all, she loved to be with her family.
On December 21, 2008, Ardis Bornholdt passed away at Parc Hall in Emmetsburg. She was 83.
Left to Cherish her memory are her children: Reed Bornholdt of Richfield and wife, Jean, Minnesota and Barbara Goodlaxson and her husband, Bill of Emmetsburg; five grandchildren: Abby and Kelly Goodlaxson; and Adam and Tim Bornholdt and Megan Kennealy and husband, Brendon; a sister, Myrna VanPelt and her husband, Ray of Orange City, Iowa and Gerald VerHoef and his wife, Marilyn of Hartley, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and her sister, Karen Hellinga.

"My deepest sympathies to your family. Ardis (Mrs. Bornholdt to me) was my 6th grade teacher in Primghar. She was a wonderful teacher who taught us so much. I still have my "Iowa" history book that we made in a 3 ring binder for our 6th grade Social Studies project and I have been out of school 20 years! She was a kind hearted lady who I am sure will be deeply missed. My sypmathies to all of you."
