Allen Ross Hoerschelman was born on March 15, 1938 in Maquoketa, Iowa, to Harry Gottlieb and Bertha (Fuller) Hoerschelman. He grew up in Andrew and was a 1956 graduate of Andrew High School. Allen liked to travel, listen to country music, go horseback riding, and play cards, particularly euchre and bridge. He loved spending time with this family especially around a bonfire, and was known as a very mechanical man who could fix anything.
