Fred Charles Nichols, 80, of Burlington, died at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, July 24, 2009 at his residence. Born November 18, 1928 in Spalding, Iowa, he was the son of James William Sr. and Elsie Pearl Johnson Nichols. On June 28, 1947, he married Peggy Lou Lawler in Burlington. Mr. Nichols attended Burlington Schools. He was a Navy Veteran with the rank of Seaman. Mr. Nichols worked as a core maker and molder for Murray Iron Works and SS Gray Iron Works for 32 years. He also worked for K-Mart in Maintance for 27 years. He enjoyed baseball and football. He was especially a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, Denver Broncos and San Francisco 49ers. Survivors include, his wife of 62 years, Peggy Lou Nichols of Burlington; one daughter, Teresa Ann (Doug) Nichols Brockway of Scottsdale, Arizona; three sons, Kevin Allen (Lillian Razo) Nichols of Ventura California, Steven Charles Nichols of Burlington and Jeffrey Scott Nichols of Burlington; six grandchildren, Shawn McChesney, Matt McChesney, Joshua Nichols, Tyler Nichols, Miranda Nichols and Katarina Nichols; two great-grandchildren, Chanse McChesney and Xianne McChesney; two sisters, Joanne (Jim) Day of Galesburg,...[more]

linois and Joyce Marlene (Harry) Malcom of Keithsburg, Illinois; four brothers, Jack (Sharon) Nichols, Darwin Dean (Paulette) Nichols and Kenneth (Pamela) Nichols all of Burlington and Larry (Debbie) Nichols of Rialto, California and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sister and two brothers. Memorials have been established for Great River Hospice and the VA Medical Center in Iowa City.
