Charles F. "Chuck" Dyer, 98, of Maquoketa, Iowa, died on Friday morning, March 1, 2013, at the Maquoketa Care Center in Maquoketa, Iowa. A celebration of Chuck's life will be held at 6:30 P.M., Wednesday, March 6, 2013, from the Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa, Iowa. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 4:30 to 6:30 P.M., Wednesday, March 6, 2013, from the Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Cremation will follow the service and burial will be at the Mount Hope Cemetery, Maquoketa. Charles F. Dyer was born on November 23, 1914 in Fort Dodge, Iowa, to Alfred and Leona (Brooks) Dyer. He was a high school graduate and later attended Bayless Business College. He married Virginia "Jean" Schoenauer on May 16, 1940 in Dubuque, Iowa. "Chuck" retired on January 1, 1977 as the Regional General Adjuster after over 35 years with the General Adjustment Bureau. During this period he was transferred over ten times. Upon retirement, Chuck and Jean chose Maquoketa as their final home location. and had been active on the Jackson County Board of Review, Maquoketa Library Board, Maquoketa Planning and Zoning Commission, and the Maquoketa Utility Board. He was a past member of the Maquoketa Lions Club and had been a member of the First United Methodist Church in Maquoketa. He was a Mason for over 50 years and a member of the Maquoketa Masonic Helion Lodge #36 AF & AM, where he had served as past Master in 1982 and 1983. He also was a 32nd degree Scottish Mason and a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies in Clinton, Iowa. Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Virginia "Jean" Dyer of Maquoketa, IA; children, Jeff (Rebecca) Dyer of Raeford, NC, and Joan (Gordon) Meloche of Manchester, MI; 6 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a Charles F. "Chuck" Dyer memorial fund has been established.
