Mrs. Janice Lee Carter, 71, of Burlington passed away Friday, March 1, 2013, at her home. Born September 6, 1941 in Mercer County, Missouri, she was the daughter of Orville and Olive Oleta Stark. On January 13, 1957 she married Charles Irven Carter of Allerton, Iowa in Princeton, Missouri. They were married for 44 years until his death on December 22, 2001. Janice spent her younger years living in Mercer County on a farm. She spent many years cleaning businesses, and helping elderly people. She also worked eight years for Hy-Vee in Albia, Iowa as a baker and fryer. She also worked for Burlington Hy-Vee in the deli. She worked at Wal-mart in Burlington, Iowa from 1995 until she retired in May of 2008. Janice's hobbies included sewing, working with silk flowers, and jigsaw puzzles. She loved to listen to Elvis, Ernie Haase & Signature Sound gospel music. She spent many hours enjoying long walks and eagle watching on the banks of the Mississippi River. Derrick and Catherine Carter of Dallas City, Illinois, Jeffrey Lynn and Tori Carter of Knoxville, and Timothy Micah and Julie Carter of Hiteman. Janice and Charles helped raise three of their grandchildren, Kristian Ashley, Kyle Irven and Makenzie Elizabeth Carter. Twenty-one grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two sisters, Velma Davis of Altoona, Iowa and Lena Kemper of Lucas; two brothers, Everett Stark and Orville Stark Jr. of Mercer, Missouri also survive. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Charles Robert Carter and Todd Elliott Carter; one grandson, Kasey Carter; five brothers and two sisters. The funeral service for Mrs. Carter will be 10 a.m. Monday, March 4th, at Lunning Chapel with Pastor Larry Dodds officiating. Interment will be in Allerton Cemetery. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the time of service. Following the committal service there will be a time of fellowship and food at the Allerton Civic Center in Allerton.
