Erma Alice VanWardhuizen, age 85, of Albia died on Monday, March 11, 2013 at her residence under the care of Care Initiatives Hospice of Albia. She was born on March 19, 1927 in Flint, MI to Herschel and Delia (Ferneau) Beck. She graduated from Grand Blank High School in Flint, MI. She attended Indian Hills Community College, and became a Nurses Aid. She married Arnold VanWardhuizen Sr. on January 21, 1950 at the First Methodist Church in Albia. Arnold died on May 7, 1969. Erma worked at Chamberlain Manufacturing in Albia, Delongs, Brees Rest Home, and Monroe County Hospital where she was a Nurses Aid. She is a past member of the Open Bible Church in Albia, and the First Pentecostal of Assembly of God Church in Ottumwa. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, puzzles, and taking care of children. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family. She is survived by her children, Richard (Debra) VanWardhuizen of Albia, Janice Davis of Albia, Arnold Jr. (Marilyn "Hope") VanWardhuizen of Ottumwa, Wayne (Jonith) VanWardhuizen of Knoxville, Beth (Craig) Morgan of Albia, John (Pam) VanWardhuizen of Albia, 25 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, ...[more]

numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Arnold Sr., daughter, Mary Ellen, and two brothers, Vern and Carroll Beck. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 am, Friday, March 15, 2013 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Albia with Pastor Richard Schlotter officiating. Burial will follow services in Oakview Cemetery in Albia. Visitation will open to the public at 1:00 pm on Thursday, March 14, 2013 at the Sinnott Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Albia with family being present from 6-8 pm Thursday evening at the Funeral Home.
