John Emerson Earlewine, age 86, of Windom, MN passed away April 4th, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Society-Sogge Memorial in Windom. John was born October 21, 1926 on the family farm in Great Bend Township, Cottonwood County, the son of Fred and Ada (Schaffer) Earlewine. He received his education after attending country school and then graduating from Windom High School in 1944. Following graduation he enlisted in the Navy serving in the South Pacific on Guam and the Marshall Islands in World War II. After his discharge he attended the University of Minnesota for one year. Returning to Windom he worked at J & H Radio and did road construction. John married Joan Carlberg on May 30, 1950 at the 1st Presbyterian Church in Windom. He was employed at Town N' Country Appliance doing sales and service for over 20 years until his retirement. An avid sportsman, John was a charter member of the Sun Valley Gun Club and a member of the National Rifle Association. John was also a member of the American Legion and the Eagles Club where Pinochle was a favorite card game. his wife of 63 years, Joan (Carlberg) Earlewine of Windom; daughter Marcia (Earlewine) Eickholt of Eden Prairie, MN; sons Bruce and David Earlewine of Excelsior, MN; granddaughter Cory Lynn Eickholt; nephews Wynn and Fredric Earlewine; longtime close family friend Gordon Smith; his fellow hunting and fishing enthusiasts and many friends. John was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers; Willard (Bill) and Donald Earlewine. Friends are invited to join John's family for coffee and cookies at Visitation held at the LaCanne Family Funeral Home on Monday April 8th, 2013 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. A private family inurnment to follow at the Lakeview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests any memorial donations in John's name be made tothe Kidney Dialysis Unit at the Sanford Worthington Medical Center or the Windom Sun Valley Gun Club.
