y and Ralph retired from active farming and moved to Nevada where they lived until Ralph's death on October 12, 2007. Betty lived with her daughter Julie in Colo for 1 ½ years before moving to Story City and finally Mason City in 2010. Betty's life was filled with music and family. She sang at church as a two year-old and continued to sing in groups throughout her adult life. Betty was the glue that led her family with quiet grace. Dogs, kittens, birds and flowers were things she loved around her. She was a longtime member of the Order of the Eastern Star, P.E.O. NE Chapter, Kenningston Club and the Bid-and-Bye bridge club. She was a kind, quiet, quick witted woman whose gentle touch and demeanor will forever be cherished by her family. Betty always had a smile on her face. Her caregivers, during her final years, loved this tiny "natural" red-head. She never spoke an unkind or harsh word and the example she set for her family is admired and lovingly remembered. Betty is survived by daughter Janie (Jim) Paape of Mason City; son Jim (Dian) Lehman of Peru, IN; daughter Julie (Mark) Farren of Colo; eleven grandchildren Mara (Tim) Kaplan of Cottage Grove, MN, Tyson Paape of Minneapolis, MN, Nick (Sara) Paape of Omaha, NE, Stephanie (Matthew) Morgan of Boise, ID, Ian Lehman of Cincinnati, OH, Ashley (Brandon) Bush of Carmel, IN, Kira (Rob) Nelson of Roland, Kylee (Brad) Fleming of Independence, IA, Taylor Farren of Colo and fiancé Kaleb Appelgate of Marshalltown IA, Madison Farren, McKenna Farren of Colo; twelve great-grandchildren Wesley, Maislin, Peyton, Jack, Max, Farren, Braiden, Wayne, Kipling, Cade, Weston and Boden.
