Mervin Harrington

Mervin Dennis Harrington was born on December 8, 1919, in Jackson County, Minnesota to the late Chauncey and Anna (Brenne) Harrington. He was baptized at home in January of 1920 and was later confirmed in 1940 at Salem Lutheran Church in Comfrey. Mervin attended District #16 country school in Jackson County. On July 10, 1938, Mervin was united in marriage to Bernice Grams in Windom. This marriage was blessed with six children, Ronald, Judith, Barbara, Fran, Cheryl and James. Through the years, Mervin loved to farm and was very good at it. He farmed in Holloway, Comfrey and then around the Mountain Lake area. Bernice passed away in 1984, after her death, Mervin continued to farm. On December 30, 1990, Mervin was united in marriage to Edith Erickson at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Alpha. After their marriage they lived on a farm outside of Mt. Lake before Mervin retired in 1996 and Mervin moved into Mt. Lake with Edith. Recently, Mervin's health had been declining and on September 1, 2009, he became a resident of the Good Samaritan Society-The Village in Mt. Lake. ervin was a past member of the Salem Lutheran Church in Comfrey where he was a trustee. Mervin was currently a member of the American Lutheran Church in Windom. Mervin will be remembered as a wonderful, loving, husband, father and grandfather who always tried to set a good example for his entire family. Mervin was a man of deep faith, trust and love in God. He loved and enjoyed his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and visiting with friends and family. Mervin is survived by his wife, Edith of Mt. Lake; five children, Judith Harrington of New Ulm; Barbara (Jerry) Haugen of Comfrey; Fran (Don) Holland of St. James; Cheryl (Lee) Knudson of Windom; James (Jackie) Harrington of Butterfield; and Merv also shared Edith's daughter and family with her-Mary Sue (Ron) Kremmin of Webster; 19 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Betty Harrington of Windom; and several cousins and many friends. Mervin is preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Bernice; one son, Ronald; four brothers and two sisters.
