A Mass of Christian Burial for Norma Sampson will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Graettinger. Burial is in St. Jacob's Cemetery, Graettinger. The family will greet friends from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday at the church where there will be a parish vigil service at 6:30 p.m. Norma Anne Sampson was born August 6, 1936 in Jackson, MN, the daughter of Russell and Anne (Sabatka) Hempstead. She attended Catholic Grade School, and she was a 1954 graduate of Jackson High School. On September 21, 1954, Norma was united in marriage to Robert Sampson in Jackson, MN. The couple made their home in Graettinger where Norma cooked at Graettinger Community Schools, managed the Happy Hour Café for several years and raised her family. She enjoyed genealogy, cooking, canning and baking, and she would often make homemade buns for people in Graettinger. Norma spent many hours making quilts with her mother for homeless shelters and family members. Some of her favorite pastimes were: genealogy, canning, asparagus hunting, going to garage sales, camping and spending the winters with Bob in McAllen, TX. amel corn, but more than anything, Norma loved family gatherings, surrounding herself with family and watching her children and grandchildren participate in all of their activities. Norma was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Society. She was also a member of the Orphan Train Society, Riverside Club and the Coachman Camper Club. Norma will be remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, sister and grandmother, and she will be truly missed by all that knew and loved her. On Friday, April 12, 2013, Norma passed away at the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, David Hempstead. Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Bob of Graettinger; five children: Barb (Marty) Currans of Emmetsburg, Tom (Kim) Sampson of Trimont, MN, Pam Musgrove of Hugoton, KS, Ron (Marie) Sampson of Ankeny, IA and Pat (Mark) Smith of Marshalltown; brother, Mark (Julie) Hempstead of Windom, MN; sister-in-law, Shirley (Allan) Stewart of Omaha, NE; 15 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
