Jane Elizabeth Doocy was born August 17, 1934 in Council Bluffs, daughter of Jack and Helen (Scholes) Hicks. As a young child her family moved to Algona. Jane graduated from Algona High School in 1952. She worked as a bookkeeper for the city of Algona until 1958 and also worked at Wiedennoffs (Snap-On) for a short time. Jane was united in marriage to Phil Doocy on October 22, 1956, at St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona. They raised their family in Bancroft. Jane was known to many as an extremely talented and gifted musician. Her love of music started at the age of seven when she began playing the piano and later taught herself to play the guitar. She was a vital part of the music liturgy at St. John's Catholic Church for many years. She served the parish as church organist, choir director, and funeral choir director. She also sang with Many Voices Choir and Bel Canto Chorus. Jane shared her enthusiasm for the art by making music a large part of the many spiritual retreats she gave for various churches, schools, and organizations. ocy died Monday, April 29, 2013 following a brief illness. She was 78. She is survived by her husband Phil of Bancroft; four children, Mike (Ruth) Doocy of Carrollton, TX and grand-daughters Christina and Laura; Melissa (Mark) McGuire of Algona and grandchildren, Anthony, Alissa, Andrew, and Alex; Mary Wirth of Bancroft and grandchildren, Thomas Breckenridge, Megan Helle, Cody and Abby Wirth; and Jan Morton of Cherokee, and grandchildren Amy Watts and Sydney Morton. She is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Jacob, Amanda, and Hailey; two great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, David Hicks of Fredericksburg, VA; one brother-in-law; four sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
