John "Jack" Harness

John "Jack" Harness, 87, of Keokuk, died Saturday, May 11, 2013, at Lexington Square Health Care in Keokuk. Jack was born October 12, 1925, in Keokuk, IA, to Grover Cleveland and Natalie Weil Harness. He married Helen Miller at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Norman, Oklahoma. She survives. Jack lived most of his life in the Keokuk area. He was employed with Hubinger Company for thirty-six years, initially as a Chemist and later as Manager of Tech Sales. He was in the Navy during World War II and was 1943 graduate of Keokuk High School. Jack was a former member of the Keokuk Kiwanis Club, B.P.O. Elks and American Legion. He was raised in the Disciples of Christ Church. He was a member of the American Chemical Society, American Brewing Society and Paper Manufacturers Association. Jack enjoyed golf, crossword puzzles, handball, and racquetball for many years. He is survived by his wife Helen Harness of Keokuk, IA; two sons: John R. A celebration of his life will be at 10:30 am, Thursday, May 16, 2013, at DeJong-Greaves Celebration of Life Center at 1212 Concert Street in Keokuk with Pastor David Turner officiating. Burial with be at Oakland Cemetery. Following the service at the cemetery, family will meet with friends. Memorials may be made to Cystic Fibrosis or the American Cancer Society.
