Mary Margaret Mourlam

Mary Margaret Mourlam, 92, of Webster City, died Sunday, May 19, 2013 at the Van Diest Medical Center. Visitation with the family will be June 25 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with Memorial services at 2:00 p.m. on June 26 at the Foster Chapel, with Pastor Richard Laird officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Mary Margaret Hall, daughter of Oscar C. and Neva Garrick Hall, was born October 2, 1920 in Webster City. She attended school in Webster City graduating from Lincoln High in 1938. After graduating from Webster City Junior College and Iowa State Teachers College she taught rural school for three years at Troy # 7, outside of Woolstock. While teaching there she met Roger E. Mourlam, Jr. On July 19, 1942, she married Roger at the Church of Christ in San Luis Obispo,California. After Roger's discharge from the Army the couple returned to Webster City. She worked in the Hamilton County Court House in the Recorder's office, Clerk's office, Treasurer's office, and Auditor's office before returning to teaching. daughter, Mary Jeanne Mourlam of Newton; son, Roger Bruce (Suki) Mourlam of Dallas, TX; grandchildren, Tiffany Mourlam and David Mourlam of Dallas, TX; sisters, Helen (Elton) Triplett of Mesa, AZ; Neva Jean (Stanton) Jacobson of Story City; Shirley (Hilliard) Comeaux of Northfield, MN; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband of over 68 years, her parents, a sister-in-law and four brothers-in-law. Mary Margaret was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ where she taught Bible School and was active in Church Circles and Women's Fellowship. She was a lifetime member of the National Education Association, an active member of RSVP, attended Congregate Meals and a longtime member of Purity Rebekah Lodge. She was a member of the Iowa Poetry Association and was a published poet. In 2005, 23 years after retiring from teaching, she was presented the "My Favorite Teacher" award by WOI-TV. She was nominated by a former second grade student who is now a teacher in the Webster City school system. Mary Margaret enjoyed collecting dolls and was a avid crafter. She enjoyed crocheting, creating greeting cards as well as jewelry. Memorials may be given to the New Testament Church of Christ, Webster City Church of Christ, Midwestern Christian Services at Peterson, Iowa, St.Jude's Children's Research Hospital or the American Cancer Society.
