Timothy Nathan Thomas, 31, of Maquoketa, Iowa, and formerly of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday morning, May 22, 2013, after a courageous battle with cancer. A celebration of Tim's life will be held at 7 P.M., Friday, May 24, 2013, from the Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa, Iowa. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 4 to 6:45 P.M. on Friday, May 24, 2013, from the Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Graveside Services and Burial will be held at 10 A.M., Saturday, May 25, 2013, from the Lowden, Iowa Cemetery, with military honors. Timothy was born on December 23, 1981 in Fort Knox, Kentucky to James and Diana (Jackson) Thomas. He was a 2000 graduate of North Cedar High School, and joined the Army in 2000 serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom from March 2003 to July 2004. Tim received the Army Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Global War on Terrorism Expedition and Two Army Commendation Medals. Tim was medically retired in 2005 due to cancer. Tim was a talented artist and was known as a quiet person with a quick sense of humor. He never once complained about his bout with colon cancer. to honor Tim's memory include his parents, James and Diana Thomas of Maquoketa, IA; a sister, Jessica Thomas of Maquoketa, IA; niece, Gracie Hempstead of Maquoketa, IA; his beloved cat, Marcus; grandmother's, Eileen Jackson of Maquoketa, IA, and Norma Thomas of Davenport, IA; aunts and uncles, Dawn (Steve) Cobert of Ghent, KY, Denise (Steve) Guenther of Winnetka, CA, Donna (Phil) Sweeney of Tomah, WI, Jeff (Melissa) Thomas of Davenport, IA, and Jolene (Randy) Speth of Long Grove, IA; and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his brother Brian in 2008, aunt Joni Thomas, uncle John Thomas, grandfathers Donald Jackson and H. Lyle Thomas, and his dog Buddy. Tim's casketbearers will be Phil Sweeney, Brett Sweeney, Jeff Thomas, Justin Weber, Andrew Speth, Randy Speth. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made to the Jackson County Human Society, Hospice of Jackson County or the charity of the donor's choice.
