John Junior Nissen, 78, of Maquoketa, Iowa, and formerly of Wyoming, Iowa, died on Monday, June 10, 2013, at his home in Maquoketa. Friends and family may gather in remembrance of John from 4 to 7 P.M. on Monday, June 17, 2013, at the Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa, where a 5:30 P.M. prayer service will be held. A reception will follow at Horseshoe Pond in Maquoketa. A private burial will be held at a later date from the Oakdale Cemetery, Davenport, Iowa. John Junior Nissen was born on October 29, 1934 in Anamosa, Iowa, to Jens John and Ruth Ethel (Dodge) Nissen. He was a graduate of Wyoming High School and then served honorably in the military. He married Connie Lee Waters on July 3, 1970 in Lost Nation, Iowa. Upon receiving an honorable discharge, John returned home and began a career in farming. He farmed in the Wyoming and Center Junction areas for many years. John liked going to auctions, collecting arrowheads, working on cars and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. s wife, Connie Nissen of Maquoketa, IA; children, Kayleen (Todd) Barten of Maquoketa, IA, Kristen (Shane) Hagemann of Maquoketa, IA, Tom Nissen of Onslow, IA, Wesley (Kendra) Nissen of Monticello, IA and Jens (Paula) Nissen of Des Moines, IA; 11 grandchildren, Jens (Dani) Barten, Drake Barten, Dakota Barten, Landen Barten, Walker Barten, Madison Hagemann, Gabriel Hagemann, Corbin Nissen, Rodney Nissen, Joseph Nissen and Nathan Nissen; 2 great-grandchildren, Teegan Barten and Bradley Barten; a brother, Elmer (Sheryl) Nissen of Center Junction, IA; and sisters, Janette Ames of Hiawatha, IA, and Ann (Jim) Eby of Monticello, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Donny Nissen, and a grandson Matthew Nissen. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a John Junior Nissen memorial fund has been established.
