Irene M. Ragan

Irene Mary Ragan, R.N., 91 (nee Engbarth) died June 9, 2013 with her family by her side at her residence, St. Joseph Manor, Meadowbrook, PA. She was born April 30, 1922, the oldest of six children on the Engbarth family farm outside of Adrian, MN. Irene met the love of her life, Daniel Joseph Ragan, while he was serving in the Army Air Corps and she was completing her nurses' degree at McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D. They settled in Cheltenham, Pa where they raised six children and were happily married for 63 years. Irene loved being a nurse and was proud to be a part of the Harvard Medical School Nurses' Health Study. She and Dan were great entertainers. They loved to play bridge and they traveled throughout Europe. Irene was devoted to her faith community, serving as president of the Sodality and as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Joseph Church in Cheltenham. But most of her time and energy was spent in caring for her family. She was a scout leader for her children and a VBS crafts director for her grandchildren. Sweeney (Michael). Family and Friends are invited to a Vigil Service on Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at 6:00 PM followed by a visitation until 8:00 PM at the Anton B. Urban Funeral Home, 1111 S. Bethlehem Pk., Ambler, PA 19002 and on Thursday, June 13, 2013 from 10:00 to 11:30 AM at St. Alphonsus Church, 1565 Temple Drive, Maple Glen, PA 19002. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 AM. Interment will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Cheltenham, PA. In addition, a Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, June 14, 2013 at 1:30PM at St. Joseph Manor 1616 Huntingdon Pike, Meadowbrook, PA., 19046.
