Peter M. Bednar BEAUFORT, South Carolina -- Peter M. Bednar Sr., 68, of Beaufort, South Carolina, died on June 14, 2013, after a 21 year battle with cancer. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 20, 2013, at St. Peter's Historical Catholic Church, Carteret Street. Burial will take place at 12:00 Noon, on Thursday, June 20, 2013, at the Beaufort National Cemetery, with full Army Honors. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at the Copeland Funeral Service, Beaufort, South Carolina. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to Our Lady's Emergency Food Pantry in care of St. Peter's Catholic Church, Beaufort, S. C., or to your local food pantry in his memory. Peter was born on July 30, 1944, in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of Mary and Peter Bednar. After high school, he attended Ohio University before enlisting in the US Army and was commissioned a 2nd/Lt in 1967. He was deployed to Viet Nam as an Infantry Platoon Leader. . He started his career at General Tire and Rubber Company, working his way up from supervisor to Vice-President, President, and CEO of companies in Alabama and Mississippi. After forty-five years in the rubber and plastic industries, he and his wife retired to Beaufort, South Carolina. Peter is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Marilyn Bednar of Beaufort, South Carolina, and his son, Peter M Bednar Jr. of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
