Ida Belle Black was born in Ledyard, on September 4, 1913, to John and Clara (Schilke) Felter. She moved to Walworth, WI, with her family in 1916, and then back to Iowa in 1925. She graduated from Algona High School in 1932.
Ida was united in marriage to Glenn Black on January 14, 1934, in Estherville, IA, and they enjoyed 60 wonderful years together. They lived near Des Moines for three years and then moved to the Burt area where they farmed for many years until moving into Burt in 1965. Glenn passed away on June 10, 1994. Ida moved to Algona in 2000 where she continued to live until her death on July 20, 2013. Ida's greatest joy was her loving family. She enjoyed gardening, especially raising beautiful flowers. She was also an avid reader and enjoyed word puzzles and games.
Ida will be sadly missed by her daughters, Caryle and her husband Marvin Lallier of Algona, and Janet and her husband DuWayne Gebken of Madison, WI; one son, Doug Black and his wife Kris of Eden Prairie, MN; and one son-in-law, Jim Kollasch of Bancroft. Survivors also include nine grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
