Dean and Darlene lived in Manchester for 22 years and retired to Maquoketa in 1994. Dean was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Maquoketa, and had volunteered at the Hurstville Interpretative Center, Jackson County Historical Society and the Maquoketa Caves State Park. He enjoyed the outdoors and loved hunting, fishing and vacationing all over the United States and Canada with family. He was very fond of Idaho and during the summers when he was 16 and 17 he hitchhiked to Idaho where he worked as a fire spotter for three months. Additionally, he was an Eagle Scout and earned the prestigious God and Country award. Dean is survived by his children, Loni Duncan (Gary Wilkinson) of Oxford, IA, Scott (Michelle) Dalziel of Dunnellon, FL, and Michelle (Kelly) Sweet of Manchester, IA; 6 grandchildren, Ashley, Clay, Allan, Danielle, Aubrie and Erin; 2 step-grandchildren, Devlin and Brian; 3 great-grandchildren, 2 step-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Jerry (Marlene) Dalziel of Maquoketa, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Robert, and his wife Darlene. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made to the American Friends Service Committee, Hospice of Jackson County, the Alzheimer's Association, or the First United Methodist Church of Maquoketa.
