E. Aline Erwin WEST LIBERTY, Iowa--E. Aline Erwin, 91, passed away on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at the Pleasantview Home in Kalona. Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 17, 2013, at the West Liberty United Methodist Church. Burial will be in North Prairie Cemetery, West Liberty. Visitation will be from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. on Friday, August 16, 2013, at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Iowa City Hospice. Edna Aline Erwin was born on April 23, 1922, in Coal Run, Kentucky. One of ten children, she was the daughter of Benjamin Morton and Emma Syck Priest. She attended country school and Pikeville, Kentucky High School, graduating in 1941. Shortly after graduation, she moved to the San Francisco Bay area of California. She trained and worked in the payroll offices on Mare Island during World War II. Aline met Lewis R. Erwin who also worked in the mare Island Shipyards. They married on April 14, 1943, in Reno, Nevada. All three of their children were born in Oakland, California. In 1957, she and Louie moved back to his hometown of West Liberty. y two years. Aline was an active member of the West Liberty United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She served as a 4-H leader to the Waspsie Cedar Pals. She was a life-long member and held office in several organizations; Fortnightly Literary Club, Hartupee Social Club and the Rest-A-While club among others. She was avid at sewing, gardening, and reading. Aline loved all kinds of music but it was the music of her youth- Bluegrass - that she enjoyed the most. The greatest joy in her life was taking care of her family and living on the farm. She is survived by her daughter, Pam Erwin of Mahwah, New Jersey, her sons, Ronald Erwin of Iowa City, and Stan Erwin and wife, Sue, of Burlington; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Sylvia Darling of Vallejo, California, and Stella Gillotte of Farmington, New York; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 64 years, Lewis Erwin in 2007; four sisters; and three brothers.
