g as he spent many an evening down at the school playing ball with the high school players as well as Sunday afternoons playing makeup games in the gym. The years were full of high school sports during the week and most weekends there was a Square Dance to call. In 1976 he returned to KMA to work. In 1987 he married Merna Blackburn. Duane and Merna lived in Shenandoah until 1989 at which time they moved to Glenwood, Iowa. In Glenwood they owned and operated Midwest Lanes Bowling Center. They remained in Glenwood until 1998 when Duane retired and they moved back to Shenandoah. Duane kept busy with golf, bowling and attending the grand-kids school events. There was also time to travel with Merna including a winter spent traveling the southwest after she retired. He also enjoyed spending afternoons on the tractor mowing the sod field. Duane enjoyed being a salesman, calling square dances, camping, golfing, bowling & especially going to the grand-kids sporting events. Through all of his travels he never knew a stranger wherever he went and whatever he was doing. Duane is preceded in death by his wife Merna; parents Lloyd and Marjorie (Hill) Young; brother-in-laws Vernon Lawrence, Gerald Murphy, Jimmy Murphy (at birth), Clifford Shankel, Jack Hutt, Jerry Hatch, Don Coursey and Gratis (Trigger) Nuckolls; sister-in-law Jean Shankel, father and mother-in-law Ralph and Alice Murphy as well as Ellie Myers infant daughter of Justin & Jennifer Myers. Duane is survived by his sister, Carmelita Lawrence; son Bruce Young and wife Brenda; daughter Brenda Myers and husband Pat; and son Scott Young; step-daughter LeAnn Farnsworth and husband Ryan; step-son Jeff Blackburn and wife Tina; grandchildren: William Young and wife Karen, Kenny Young, Justin Myers and wife Jennifer, Jeremy Myers and wife Monica, Joshua Myers an wife Kay-Leigh, Jared McManis and wife Erin, Clayton Young, Brad Young, Melissa Farnsworth, Jennifer Blackburn, Austin Blackburn; great-grandchildren: Vanessa Young, Hank Myers, Lacey Myers, Xander Myers, Zane McManis and Kenley McManis. Memorials are being established.
