Doane Ellsworth Hartford WEST BURLINGTON, Iowa -- Doane Ellsworth Hartford, 98, of Wapello, and formerly of Elma, Washington, died on Saturday, September 21, 2013, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. There will be no services. After cremation the family will honor his wishes with scattering. The Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello is providing care and arrangements. The son of Doane Ellsworth and Laura Elizabeth Sutton Hartford, he was born on February 5, 1915, in Olympia, Washington. He married Vina Ray on December 29, 1940. She preceded him in death on March 11, 1998. Doane served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a salesman and a carpenter. He was a member of the V.F.W. in Elma, Washington. Doane enjoyed playing darts and pinochle. His family includes a daughter, Bobbie Stromer of Wapello; three sons, Don Hartford of Rochester, Washington, Duane Hartford of Satsop, Washington, and Ray Dean Hartford of Washington state; 13 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren; a half-brother, Hart Brady of Texas; and several Kansas relatives.
