Ruth Louise Whitmer MUSCATINE, Iowa - Before the sun came up on a crisp October 8th, 2013 morning, Ruth Louise Whitmer went to her heavenly home, cradled at her home by her loved ones. Funeral Service will be at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 12, 2013 at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Muscatine. Burial will be at the Figg Family Plot in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. on Friday, October 11, 2013, at the funeral home. Memorials may be designated at the funeral home for either: The Jessie May Wiley Student Nurse Scholarship: UnityPoint-Trinity Hospice; or memorials may be made to the family. Ruth was born on June 4, 1923, in Muscatine at the Bellevue Hospital, to Clarence H. and Jessie May Wiley Figg. She graduated from Muscatine High School, Coe College and, in 1942, from the Paris Beauty Academy in Cedar Rapids. Ruth has been a licensed cosmetologist since 1942, having her own beauty shop and teaching at the Muscatine School of Beauty. Next to her family, cosmetology was her special pride and joy. ise Connor and Julie Figg Connor. Ruth married Leslie E. Whitmer on August 12, 1990, at The Little Brown Church in Nashua. Ruth and Leslie merged their two families together and enjoyed the love that came from that blended family. Surviving Ruth is her loving husband, Leslie E. Whitmer; her two daughters, Susan Louise Connor and Julie Figg Connor Paulsen and husband, Myron; her granddaughters, Alison Nyenhuis Decker and husband, Michael, and Sarah Louise Ball Hatch and husband, Steve; her very special granddaughter and family Kiley Krogman and husband, Bill, and their daughters, Kamree and Laney; Leslie's children: Leslie Whitmer, deceased (Pat) and their children: Christopher, Matthew and Megan, Jeff Whitmer (Joy) and their children: Ashley and Alisha: Angie Overton and her husband, Mike and their children: Tyler, Andrew and Ryan; in addition to Ruth's eleven grandchildren, she is survived by nine great grandchildren as well as cousins, nieces and nephews. A recently "adopted" member to her family is her hospice nurse, Audra. Audra guided Ruth through her illness, providing strength, support, guidance and unending love to her and her family. Ruth's family is forever in Audra's debt, coming to comfort and aid Ruth at all hours of the day and night. Preceding Ruth in death are her parents; her brother and sister-in-law, Robert James and Anne Figg; her granddaughters, Katrina Ann-Louise Hill and Jessica May Nyenhuis Young.
