Michael A. Cook went Home to God on Sunday, October 27, 2013, at the age of 62. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 4:30 PM at Oakcrest Funeral Services of Bancroft with Fr. Sunny Dominic officiating. A sunset burial will follow at St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Bancroft. Visitation will be from 3 PM Wednesday until time of service at the funeral home. A Celebration of Life supper will be held following graveside services at the North Kossuth Golf Course in Bancroft. All are welcome. Michael Allan Cook was born November 12, 1950, in Anamosa, son of Gene and Betty (Michel) Cook. He grew up in Scotch Grove graduating in 1968 from Anamosa High School. Michael attended Iowa State University graduating with an Associate's Degree in agricultural science. Michael served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged when Vietnam War ended. He served his remaining years in the Army National Guard. He loved agriculture and returned home after the service to farm with his father and brother Rick. ne and Hawkeye fan. He enjoyed spending many good times with family and friends. Michael especially loved taking Marita to spend time at the Mississippi River. He loved helping Tony and Mike at their farm. He always enjoyed drives to Joe's farm to see the spray planes and big farm equipment at work. Michael loved spending time at home with Marita and their puppy Sara. After critical illness in Rochester, MN, he wished to be home. Michael died peacefully with his family at his side on Sunday, October, 27, 2013, in his home. Michael met Marita in 1998 and on August 23, 2001 he married his best friend, Marita, and they resided in Thompson. Together Michael and Marita have four children. He is survived by his wife Marita Cook of Thompson; children, Kati (Jim) Besler of Monticello, Tony Droessler of Lakota, Sheila (Joe) Larson of Thompson, and Mike (Jamie) Droessler of Buffalo Center; and 12 grandchildren, Olivia, Deacon, and Meghan Besler, Dakota, Colby and Haley Droessler, Alysha (Ryan) Patterson, Caleb Ricke, Abi Larson, and Mackenzie, Natasha, and Gavin Droessler. He is also survived by three sisters, Linda (Ted) Williams of Mt. Vernon, Carolyn (Bill) Lutz of Ames, and Julie (Denny) Weers of Anamosa; one brother, Rick (Susan) Cook of Monticello; many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, cousins. Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Gene and Betty Cook; his parents-in-law, August and Eleanor Berte; a son-in-law, Brian Ricke; and brothers-in-law, Edward Berte, Art White, and Kenny Bergman.
