Opal E. Gruemmer DURANT, Iowa -- Opal E. Gruemmer, 88, of Durant, died on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus, Davenport. Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 30, 2013, at the First Presbyterian Church, Wilton. The Rev. Jennifer Jennings will officiate. Pallbearers will be Matt Gruemmer, Joe Gruemmer, Dan Gruemmer, Andy Shelangoski, Nowell Frantz. Burial will take place in Durant Cemetery, Durant. Visitation will be held from 4 until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 29, 2013, at the Bentley Funeral Home, Durant. Additional visitation: One hour prior to the service at First Presbyterian Church, Wilton. Opal was born on November 26, 1924, in Moscow, the daughter of Milton and Sarah Collison House. She married Freddie G. Gruemmer on November 21, 1942, in Kahoka, Missouri. He preceded her in death on September 12, 2006. Opal was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Wilton. In early years, she was a Cub Scout leader. She sold Avon products for years. She loved to crochet and was an excellent cook. Above all, she enjoyed her family and her cat Josie. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a great granddaughter, Ellie Marie Fox; and a sister, Alta Buennig.
