Mr. Gary Allan Levinson, 65, of Sperry, died at 1:49 a.m. Thursday, November 7, 2013, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington Born November 15, 1947 in Galesburg, Illinois, he was the son of William L. and Charlotte (Goehrig) Levinson. On November 24, 1968 he married Kay F. Taeger at Salem Lutheran Church, rural Burlington. Mr. Levinson attended grade school in Galesburg and Roseville, Illinois and was a 1965 graduate of Mediapolis High School. He was an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War, serving at the rank of staff sergeant. Mr. Levinson worked for the US Postal Service for 32 years, retiring in 1999. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, Des Moines Lodge #1 AF&AM, York Rite Bodies, and Moose Lodge #579 since 1997. He enjoyed going to the Lake of the Ozarks with family and friends. Survivors include his wife, Kay F. Levinson of Sperry; one son, Brent Allan (Tamara) Levinson of Burlington; three grandsons, Bradley Levinson, Nathan Lerud and Nicholas Lerud; two brothers, Robert "Bob" (Cheryl) Levinson of Burlington and Larry (Peggy) Levinson of Burlington; brother-in-law, Dean (JoAnn) Taeger; and several nieces and nephews. parents. The celebration of life service for Mr. Levinson will be 10 a.m. Saturday, November 9th, at Lunning Chapel with the Rev. Ralph Andersen officiating. The Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military rites. A family and friendship gathering will follow at the Moose Lodge. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for Great River Hospice, Peace Lutheran Church and Holden Cancer Research Center at University of Iowa. According to Mr. Levinson's wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to Lunning Chapel.
