Mansel Smith, 95, of Fort Dodge passed away at the Good Samaritan Society Home of Newell on Tuesday December 10, 2013. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday December 14, 2013 at The First Church of the Nazarene in Fort Dodge with the graveside service being held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday at the Leon Cemetery, Leon, IA. The visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Arrangements have been entrusted with Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Mansel was born in in Van Wert, IA on May 23, 1918 to James and Ora (West) Smith. He grew up and attended Leon High School. Mansel married Wonda Boles on February 15, 1937 at the Osceola Parsonage. He farmed in Southern Iowa, drove a truck transporting stock, car transport and freight and then worked for National Gypsum for 15 years. In 1963 they made their home in Fort Dodge and in 2007 Mansel moved to the Good Samaritan Society Home in Newell. He was a very active friendly resident as he had been in his neighborhood in Fort Dodge before that. There are many friends and family that will miss him.
