Through word of mouth, his skill as a jack-of-all-trades spread and at one time or another he was involved in repairing nearly every house in the immediate area. In conjunction with his self-appointed traffic policing of the STOP sign outside his house, he was duly appointed by his neighbors as the "Mayor of Kenmare Drive", a title he both earned and relished. Golfing was Jack's passion. He organized golf leagues for General Mills, and participated in local tournaments. In his later years, he organized twice weekly outings for his senior citizens group and negotiated the greens fees with the local clubs as only a Depression-era baby could. He blended his love of golf and service as a coach for the Midlantic Blind Golfers Association Jack was a member of the Knights of Columbus and an active member of St. Alphonsus ...repairing sheds, helping paint the rectory, and being a member of the Church's outreach program to Our Lady of Hope Parish in North Philadelphia Jack survived multiple open heart surgeries and openly endorsed Abington Hospital. He ultimately succumbed to heart failure due to an aortic stenosis. Jack will be fondly missed by neighbors, friends, family and the Saint Alphonsus congregants. He was one of a kind. Friends and relatives are invited to St. Alphonsus Church, 1565 Temple Dr., Maple Glen, PA after 9:30 AM on Saturday, January 18, 2014. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM. Interment at Whitemarsh Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations to the St. Alphonsus Prayer Garden, 33 Conwell Drive, Maple Glen, PA 19002 would be appreciated.
