Wes (Westy) Lee

Wes (Westy) Lee was born to Elmer and Violet (Amundson) Lee on January 11, 1939 in Benson, MN. He was baptized at Lake Hazel Lutheran Church and confirmed at Our Redeemers Lutheran Church in Benson. He received his education from Benson High School and he graduated in 1957. After graduation, Westy enlisted in the Army in 1958 and served until he was honorably discharged in 1961. Westy was united in marriage to Barbara Roberts in 1962. This union was blessed with three children, Michelle, Barry, and an infant son who died. This marriage was later dissolved and Westy married Sandy Purrington on February 14, 1987. Westy was honored to be a stepfather to Jody, Dona, and Joel Purrington. Westy moved to Windom in 1965 where he owned and operated the Windom Bowling Alley for ten years and then owned Lee's Furniture in Wilder, MN for four years. He also served as the Mayor of Windom, MN from 1973-1980. He then worked in transportation sales and management until his retirement in 1999. Westy was a member of American Lutheran Church in Windom. Wes passed away on January 22, 2014, at the Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD, at the age of 75. Westy is survived by his beloved wife, Sandy Lee of Windom, MN; his daughter, Michelle (Bob) Elness of Fargo, ND; one daughter-in-law, Gina Lee of Bismark, ND; two stepdaughters, Jody Purrington of Duluth, MN and Dona Purrington of Shoreview, MN; and five grandchildren, Nathan, Katie, Kelsey, Yvonne, and Andrew. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Violet; son Barry Lee and his infant son; and his stepson Joel Purrington. Blessed be the memory of Wes (Westy) Lee.
