Mary D. Wiegert, 75, of Maquoketa, Iowa, died on Saturday, January 25, 2014, at Unity Point Health, Finley Hospital in Dubuque, Iowa. A celebration of Mary's life will be held at 11 A.M., Saturday, February 1, 2014 at the First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 P.M. on Friday, January 31, 2014 at the Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa, and again from 10 A.M. to Service Time on Saturday at the church. Burial will be at the Mount Hope Cemetery, Maquoketa, Iowa. Mary D. Armstrong was born on October 21, 1938 in Iowa City, Iowa, to Eldon and Edith (Peters) Armstrong. She was a 1957 graduate of Maquoketa High School. She married Laverne Wiegert on June 16, 1962 in Maquoketa, Iowa. He preceded her in death on December 20, 1999. Mary had first worked for the National Food Store for 5 years, and then at Jackson State Bank in Maquoketa as a teller and branch manager for 12 years. She had also worked at Hayes Bros. Dairy for 4 years as a dairy representative serving the counties of Jackson, Jones, Clinton and Dubuque. or 17 years, Bible school teacher for 2 years and 5 years on the Altar Guild. Mary was dedicated to the Republican National Party and had been a past member of the Republican Governor's Association. She had received several honors and awards including Task Force Member of the Year, Customer Appreciation Award in 1999, Certificate of Merit in 2002 and in 2004 was nominated Businesswoman of the Year by the Republican National Committee. She enjoyed camping, traveling, movies and dining out. Those left to honor Mary's memory include sisters-in-law, Alverda Beck of Preston, IA, and Rita Wiegert of Bellevue, IA; brothers-in-law, Albert "Junior" Wiegert of Maquoketa, IA, Harold Wiegert of Dubuque, IA, and Eldon (Sandy) Wiegert of Loveland, CO; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa.
