Barbara Jill Stephens-Blatny

Jill Stephens-Blatny, 65, of Carson, passed away February 27, 2014 at Hospice with Heart in Glenwood, Iowa. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at the Wheeler Grove UCC, rural Carson with Reverend Bruce Smith officiating with a private family burial. Visitation will be on Monday, March 3, 2014, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Loess Hills Funeral Home in Carson. Memorials are directed to the family. Barbara Jill (Higgins) Stephens-Blatny, one of two children of Lyle Robert and Elizabeth "Betty" Frances (Bland) Higgins Havick, was born on July 17, 1948 in Harlan, Iowa. Jill graduated from the Harlan High School in 1967. She received her certified nursing assistant certificate from Iowa Western in 2007 and worked as a CNA at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, Iowa. Jill and Garry Stephens were married in 1977. To this union, Jill brought her two children, Doug and Kelli Hess. Garry brought his three children, Brenda, Quincy, and Jason, to the new family. f 64. Jill and Robert "Bob" Blatny were united in marriage on November 9, 2013. Jill's family grew to include Bob's children, Ron, Justin, and Darrick Blatny. Jill was a member of the Wheeler Grove Church. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. More than anything she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Things she enjoyed doing with them were shopping and traveling. She looked forward to going to Okoboji every year with her family and taking a girls trip to Kansas with her friends. She was a wonderful wife, mom and grandmother who brought so much joy to their lives. Jill lost her courageous battle against brain cancer and passed away on February 27, 2014 at the Hospice with Heart Home in Glenwood, Iowa, at the age of 65 years, 7 months, and 10 days. She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband Garry Stephens. Jill is survived by her husband Bob Blatny of Carson; son Doug Hess and wife Susan of Carson; daughters, Kelli Burmeister and husband Jamie of Gretna, NE, and Megan Manzer and husband Chris of Macedonia, IA; grandchildren, Makenzie, Jackson, Madison, Caden, Cailee, Lucas and Danielle; step-children, Brenda, Quincy and Jason Stephens and Ron, Justin, and Darrick Blatny; step-grandchildren, Brandon, Kasey, Stephanie, Shauna, Skyler, Shayla, Penelope, Aidan, Darren, Ben, Hunter, Colton and Ana and step-great granddaughter Kayler; brother Jack Higgins and wife Su of Lincoln, NE; and other relatives and many friends.
