Nancy M. Higgins, 83, of Fort Dodge, passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 31, 2014 at Corpus Christi Church in Fort Dodge. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel with a rosary at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday conducted by the Catholic Daughters. The Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Fort Dodge is in charge of arrangements. Nancy (Belikin) Higgins was born on March 11, 1931 in Waterloo, IA to I.K (Henry) Belikin and Stasha (Kulevatow) Belikin. She graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1949. Nancy graduated from the University of Northern Iowa in 1953. Nancy began her teaching career at Spirit Lake High School. It was there that she met Bill Higgins whom she married August 1, 1954 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Waterloo. Nancy and Bill relocated to Fort Dodge in 1955 where Bill worked as a broadcaster at KVFD. Nancy resumed her teaching career at Holy Rosary Elementary School. international travel and being part of many family milestones. She often spoke fondly of times spent with family and friends. Nancy volunteered in several community organizations including Camp Fire Girls, Blanden Art Gallery, Trinity Regional Hospital Auxiliary, and Catholic Daughters of America. She was a member of Holy Trinity Parish in Fort Dodge. Survivors include her son Bill Higgins of Redmond, WA; her daughter and her husband, Kathleen and Blake Lewis of Richardson, TX; her son and his wife, Michael and Jill Higgins of Hiawatha, IA; her granddaughter and husband, Amanda and Erik Hill of Waco, TX; her grandson and his wife, Blake and Rachel Lewis of Olathe, KS; and her great-grandson, Reed Hill of Waco, TX. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, her parents, and her brother Russ. Memorials may be left to St. Edmond's Catholic Schools or the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge.
