Norma Lucille Schoening

Norma Lucille Schoening, 87, passed away on April 25, 2014 at Midlands Living Center in Council Bluffs. Her wishes were to be cremated. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at the Central Church of Christ in Griswold, Iowa with burial at the Pleasant Township Cemetery near Griswold. Family will direct memorials. Loess Hills Funeral Home of Carson assisted the family with arrangements. OBITUARY Norma Lucille Schoening, the oldest of four children of Gladys Nellie (Spiker) and Herschel Adelbert Nelson, was born on April 22, 1927 in Lewis, Iowa. She grew up in Griswold, Iowa and graduated from the Griswold High School in 1945. Norma married Harold Burton Kunze in June 1945 and they made their home in Lewis. Their marriage was blessed with five children, Larry, Steve, Roger, Randall and Sherryl. The couple divorced in 1967. Norma remarried in November 1967 to Norman Edward Schoening. In the years to follow, they lived in North Carolina, Missouri and Iowa. In May 2002, Norman passed away at their home in Emerson, Iowa. In addition to her husband, Norma was also preceded in death by her parents; sons, Larry Kunze, in infancy, and Steve Kunze; daughter-in-law Linda Kunze; brothers, Wendell and Kenneth Nelson; and sister Beverly Kuester. Norma is survived by her sons, Roger Kunze of Pensacola, FL, and Randall Kunze and wife Dona of Council Bluffs; daughter Sherryl Oliver and husband Charles of Grandy, NC; step daughters, Connie Hempel and husband Mike of Dwight, NE and Vickie Theulin and husband Jim of Council Bluffs; daughter-in-law Barb Kunze of Ontario, CA; 18 grandchildren and step grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren and step great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
