Sandra "Sandie" Schultz

Sandra "Sandie" M. Schultz, age 67, of De Pere, passed away fearlessly on Saturday, May 10, 2014 with family at her side after a six year battle with breast cancer. Sandie was born on October 18, 1946 in Green Bay, daughter of the late Lawrence and Harriet (King) Vanden Heuvel. After graduating from Preble High School in 1964, she enrolled at the Holy Family School of Nursing in Manitowoc. Sandie married Bill Narten in 1969 and together they were blessed with two children, Scott and Elizabeth "Liz". Sandie later married Ronald E. Schultz, Sr. in 1991 at St. Bernard Parish in Green Bay. He preceded her in death on June 7, 2004. She continued to further her education throughout her nursing career by earning her bachelor's degree at the University of Wisconsin - Green Bay and later her master's degree from the University of Wisconsin - Oshkosh and became a family nurse practitioner. For over four decades, Sandie excelled at her profession. She provided compassionate, knowledgeable care while working at area hospitals, clinics, and hospice programs. e also volunteered with Oneida Home Health Nurses, the Green Bay Free Clinic, and went on a medical mission to Haiti. Sandie valued education greatly and believed in giving back to her profession. She was a leader, role model, and mentor for many colleagues and students. During her illness, Sandie selflessly gave herself to clinical research at the University of Minnesota, vowing to contribute to the body of knowledge about breast cancer. Ever the promoter of good health, Sandie maintained an active lifestyle and proudly participated in the Bellin Run with her family as well as numerous charitable walks supporting the fight to end breast cancer, including the Susan G. Komen race in Madison. She cherished time spent with her large family and many friends and also loved to travel, read, and garden. In 2007, she became a Master Gardener. Her work can be seen at her Serenity Garden located on the family's Oneida land. She also enjoyed volunteering at Heritage Hill and the Green Bay Botanical Garden. Sandie is survived by her loving children, Scott (Ann) Narten of Manitowoc, Liz Narten (Kirsten Robertson) of Minneapolis, MN and Lynne (Jeff) Kunitz of Seattle, WA; her six grandchildren, Blair, Hannah, Shelby, Garrett, Eli and Caroline; step-mother, Dolly Vanden Heuvel; two brothers, Rodney (Diane) Vanden Heuvel and Bill (Cheri) Vanden Heuvel; six sisters, Marcia Vann, Lorna Vanden Heuvel, Donna King, Paula Vanden Heuvel, Carla (Bob) Peot and Gina (Jon) Accola; step-sister, Leanne (Todd) Hinkfuss; and her grand-dog, Schlitz. Sandie is further survived by her former husband, Bill Narten and many dear nieces, nephews and other close friends. Visitation for Sandie will be held on Friday, May 16, 2014 from 10:00 am until the Memorial Mass at 12:00 pm at St. Bernard Parish, 2040 Hillside Lane, with the Rev. Mark Vander Steeg officiating. The family would like to thank Dr. Winkler and staff at Green Bay Oncology, Dr. Potter and staff at the University of Minnesota Medical Center as well as the staff at Unity Hospice for the exceptional care given to Sandie.
