Donald E. "Don" Cain, 75, of Delmar, Iowa, died on Thursday evening, May 8, 2014, from injuries received in a farm tractor accident. A celebration of Don's life will be held at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, May 14, 2014, from the First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa. Visitation will be held from 2 to 7 P.M. on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 from the Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. Burial will be at the Pine Hill Cemetery, rural Grand Mound, Iowa. Donald Eugene Cain was born on May 7, 1939 in Maquoketa, Iowa, to Roy Eugene and Ruth Dorothy Marie (Geronzin) Cain. He grew up on the family farm in rural Delmar and graduated from Elwood High School in 1957. He then began farming and served in the U.S. Army Reserves for six years. He met Carol Jane Petersen in 1962 and they were married on February 23, 1963 in Clinton, Iowa. Don was a lifelong farmer and farmed the family farm with his wife Carol for over 50 years. Don was devoted to many projects and organizations and was generous with his time, talent and resources. he AIF Southeast District and had received the Iowa Fair "Man of the Year" Award in Des Moines. Additionally, he had served as board member for the Clinton County Pork Producers for six years and as a board member of the First Trust and Savings Bank in Wheatland. He was first a member of the Lost Nation Masonic Lodge and later the Zealous Masonic Lodge #435 of Oxford Junction. Don loved his family and farming and had a longtime interest with his family in showing sheep. He also loved his church, St. John's Lutheran Church at Bliedorn, where he was an active member. Through the years he enjoyed playing slow pitch baseball and was an avid bowler. Those left to honor Don's memory include his wife Carol J. Cain of Delmar, IA; children, Douglas Cain of Delmar, IA, Cawyn Cain of DeWitt, IA, and Daryn Cain of Maquoketa, IA; 1 grandchild, Regina (Raymond) Dascher; 2 great-grandchildren, Skylee and Samuel; a sister, Linda (Dick) Block of Delmar, IA; a brother, Darrell (Lola) Cain of Elwood, IA; 19 nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson Robby. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made to the Iowa Blue Ribbon Foundation or Camp Courageous of Iowa.
