Mr. Armin F. Schwanz, of Port Washington, passed away peacefully Sunday, June 8, 2014 at Heritage Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was 79 years old. Armin was born November 5, 1934 in Mequon, the son of Erich C. and Marie Schmeling Schwanz. He graduated from Cedarburg High School in 1952. On May 5, 1956, he was united in marriage with Mary Schmitz at St. John's Lutheran Church in Port Washington. She preceded him in death in 2013. Together, the couple raised their family in Port Washington. Armin worked at Simplicty for 32 years as an expeditor. He was a proud and active member of the Port Washington community, where he served as an Alderman for 15 years, on the Police and Fire Commission for 20 years, as the President of City Counsel, and as a Deputy Sheriff. He had also previously belonged to the Lions Club. He was an avid sports fan, particularly the NCAA and the Green Bay Packers. He enjoyed bird watching and visits from family and friends. lla, five great-grandchildren and two on the way, sisters-in-law: Dorothy Schelong of Shorewood and Beverly Schmitz of Destin, FL, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Rosabel Schwanz and brothers Erich and Gerald Schwanz. A Memorial Service will be held at 1PM on Thursday, June 12 at Eernisse Funeral Home, 1600 W. Grand Ave. in Port Washington. Pastor Ken Kolberg will officiate. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Thursday from 11:30AM - 1:00 PM. Armin will be laid to rest at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Cemetery in West Mequon beside his wife. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Armin's name are appreciated to Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church, West Mequon or the charity of donor's choice.
