Dick Joel Flatgard was born on January 9, 1951 in Lakefield, Minnesota as the youngest son to Alfred and Leona (Swanson) Flatgard. He was baptized at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lakefield and later confirmed at the American Lutheran Church in Windom. Dick received his education from the Windom Public Schools and the Jackson Vocational Technical College.
Dick enlisted in the United States Army on January 21, 1970 and served in the Vietnam War where he was exposed to Agent Orange. He was honorably discharged on January 21, 1972.
Dick lived all over the Midwest and East part of the United States where he worked for the airline industry in large airports. He had various jobs with them, but most recently worked as a TSA security officer at the Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport.
He is survived by his brothers, Merlin "John" Flatgard and his wife, Marilyn of Windom; Donovan "Shorty" Flatgard and his wife, Roberta of Windom; and Jerry Flatgard and his wife, Vicki of Windom; and sister-in-law, Joy Flatgard of Windom; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Dwayne "Nick" Flatgard and Jim Flatgard.
