Debra Kay Rice

Debra Kay Mason Rice 59, of New London, died Wednesday, July 30, 2014 due to a vehicle accident two miles east of Mt. Pleasant on Hiway 34. Ms. Rice was born on November 18, 1954 in Burlington, Iowa, the daughter of Ray Charles and Viola Barkus Mason. She married Michael Rice of Burlington and they later divorced. She attended Grimes and Apollo schools in Burlington and graduated from Burlington High School. Earlier in her life she had attended West Avenue Baptist Church in Burlington. She worked as a CNA at SunnyBrook and volunteered with Great River Hospice House. She enjoyed camping, fishing, and being outdoors and liked to travel, especially to Branson, Missouri. She took great pride in her grandchildren and family. Ms. Rice is survived by her children, Douglas Rice of New London and Amie Rice (Zane Darnell) of Danville; three grandchildren, Bryton, Leighton, and Ameera; special nephew, Jeff Warth and special cousin, Jimmy Wiley. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Robert Mason, and sister Duawa Fahrner. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, August 4, 2014 at Elliott Chapel, New London. Visitation will begin after 5:00 PM, Sunday, August 3, at the chapel with the family greeting friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. A memorial has been established for her grandchildren's education.
