Phyllis Ann Willey

Phyllis Ann Willey, 87, of Maquoketa, Iowa, died on Wednesday evening, August 6, 2014, at the Maquoketa Care Center, Maquoketa Iowa. Private graveside services will be held at the Mount Hope Cemetery in Maquoketa. There is no public visitation. The Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa is assisting the family. Phyllis Ann Willey was born on May 13, 1927 at home in rural Baldwin, Iowa, to A.I. and Ruth (Peterman) Willey. Phyllis graduated from Maquoketa High School in 1944. She received degrees in music from Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, Iowa and the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. She had taught music in several Iowa public school systems, including Washington, Clinton and Bettendorf. Her last position was teaching music at the Maquoketa Middle School from 1969 to 1989, when she retired. Phyllis enjoyed traveling all over the world, highlighted by visiting many major cathedrals and opera houses. One of her favorite trips was going on an African safari.
