Betty Bernice Simmons Ball, 88, of New London, died Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at Henry County Health Center.
She was born in Henry County on June 6, 1926, the daughter of Elmer Leroy and Hazel Remick Simmons. On June 19, 1943 she married Wendell Ball. He died January 16, 1997. Mrs. Ball was a 1943 graduate of New London High School. She was of the Baptist faith and was baptized in the Skunk River at Lowell.
Mrs. Ball was a homemaker, working the dairy farm with her husband. She also worked at IAAP for ten years and at Metromail in Mt. Pleasant for ten years. She was a member of the Henry County Saddle Club and the Baltimore Saddle Club where she served as secretary and treasurer for many years. She enjoyed raising flowers, gardening, sewing, driving the tractor and cooking.
Mrs. Ball is survived by three daughters, Connie (David) Thomas of Mt. Pleasant, Becky Ball (John) Siegel of New London, and Mary (Jeff) Brown of McLean, Virginia; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, grandson Curtis Allan Thomas, and brothers William and Pete Simmons.

. Pastor Brian Swafford will officiate. Burial will be in Burge Cemetery, New London. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. Memorials have been established to the New London Rescue Unit and Burge Cemetery Association.
