Lucille "Lucy" G McDonald

On August 25th 2014 Lucille (Lucy) McDonald was welcomed into heaven by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was surrounded by her loving daughters and many friends at All Saints Assisted Living. Lucy was born March 4, 1922 in Madison WI. She graduated from East High School in 1938 and entered nursing school with dreams of serving her country as an RN in the WAC. Just after finishing nursing school, but prior to taking her state boards she contracted tuberculosis. During the 2 years she was in the state sanitarium recovering from TB, she befriended the sister of Sergeant James F (Mac) McDonald. Mac and Lucille had a V-Mail courtship and soon fell in love. Shortly after Mac was discharged from the Army Air Corps they married, had five beautiful daughters and cherished their lives together for 62 years. One of Lucille's greatest accomplishments was returning to her nursing studies and passing her state boards, 3rd in her class, nearly 30 years after she started nursing school, all while raising five young children at home. er nursing career in charge of the Employee Health Department at St. Mary's before retiring in 1984. Lucille enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, camping and traveling the country, sewing and knitting and especially playing bridge with dad and her lady friends. Lucille was an avid Brewers fan and will cheer them on in the 2014 World Series from heaven. Lucille is survived by four daughters; Kathy (Peter) Diltz, Colleen (Mike) Campbell, Michelle Henkle and Camilla Jarman. She was adored by her nine grandchildren, Jamie and Jason Campbell; Bobby, Talia, Tricia and Amanda Henkle; and Carli, Lucas and Benjamin Jarman. Lucille is further survived by her twin sisters Maybelle Sullivan and Isabelle Fass, her brother Troy Thompson, and favorite cousin Shirley Carhart. She was preceded in death by her daughter Mary Anne, her sister Jeanette, and her beloved husband James. The family wishes to extend gratitude to the caring staff at All Saints Assisted Living and her dear friend, Pat Dahl. The loving assistance they provided Lucille and her family members during the last year and a half of her life was deeply appreciated. Memorials may be made to All Saints Assisted Living, 8210 Highview Drive, Madison 53719. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Lucille's life will be held at 11 am, Saturday, August 30 at Blessed Sacrament Church, 2131 Rowley Avenue in Madison. Visitation will be held at Blessed Sacrament Church immediately preceding the service from 10 am until service time. Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery.
