Robert De Gennaro

Gaetano Roberto DeGennaro, known to most as Robert, Bob, Uncle Tom, Dad, Papa, Grandpa, and even Great Grandpa, died late Saturday night of complications resulting from a fracture a week earlier. He was 94 years old. He was born in Hoboken, New Jersey to Italian immigrants Vincenzo DeGennaro and Maria Sette DeGennaro, along with his brother Vincent and sister Antoinette. Robert attended school in Hoboken, graduating at age 16 due to academic giftedness. He went on to study chemical engineering at the Newark College of Engineering (now known as NJIT) in Newark, NJ. Upon graduation, took a job at a factory that made artillery shells for World War II; his indispensable skills at that job earned him a deferment from being drafted. He married his sweetheart Grace "Peggy" Impreveduto in 1945 after her brothers returned from military service. They remained married for 69 years and she was by his side as he passed. They had four children: Vincent, Maria, Julia, and Susan, all of whom survive him today, along with their two "adopted" sons Gustavo Rodriguez and Enzo Trinca. e subsequently he took a job with the State of New Jersey, from which he also later retired. The DeGennaros split time between Fairview, New Jersey and Hallandale, Florida, eventually becoming full-time Florida residents, absorbing the sun on the beach at Johnson Street. Besides his wife and children, Robert is survived by his sister Anoinette Bauer, nieces and nephews, and all his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He goes to his eternal reward having never lost an argument to anyone except his wife.
